Follow these mental health first aid tips to start a conversation:
- Choose a good spot to talk. Meet outside work, get a hot drink or any drink, and give them plenty of time to get comfortable, to think and speak.
- Talking tips. Be supportive. Make sure your body language is open. Take them seriously.
- Useful questions. “How are you feeling?” “Who can you go to for support” “How can we help?”
- How to listen. Don’t interrupt. Don’t be judgemental. Be genuine.
