At university and the workplace, where you are expected to interact and socialise with those around you, having social anxiety can greatly hinder your happiness and peace of mind.
People do not choose to have social anxiety. It is not their fault. We need to be more compassionate and understand that some people are unable to interact in certain social circumstances. They should not be judged for being who they are. Rather, we should go out of our way to make them feel more comfortable.
If someone has social anxiety, whether at university or in the workplace, do not force them to go out to drinks with you. Get to know them. Be kind.
